The Council

The Council vision is summed up in the following statement:

‘Life is for living, let’s start, live and age well in a healthy, safe and prosperous environment.’

This vision encapsulates our wellbeing objectives: ensuring children get off to the best start in life; helping to create a healthy and safe place to live that offers economic opportunity and affordable homes; supporting people to age well; and acting as a careful steward to our cultural and natural assets.

Work is currently underway in terms of regenerating the county, and by 2030, more than 5,000 jobs will have been created via six major transformational projects, providing an economy within Carmarthenshire which is at 90% of the UK average GVA level. We are one of four local authorities in the £1.3b Swansea Bay City Region, and the City Deal will create 9,000 jobs over a 15-year period with Carmarthenshire seeing huge economic benefits in terms of digital infrastructure, smart manufacturing, energy and wellbeing. Moreover, our rural communities are also integral to our local growth and exciting new interventions, such as the Ten Towns initiative will revitalise these areas.

Future Operating Model

Working differently over the past year has taught us much at Carmarthenshire, through investing in our digital infrastructure and through a talented and committed workforce we know we can deliver great public services in agile ways, with many staff working remotely from home or any one of our workplaces within the county. Our better ways of working framework being launched later this year will embrace this learning and we would welcome applications from people who want to enjoy what Carmarthenshire has to offer and would like to work in an agile way on a regular basis.

We are a place with big ambitions, that strives to go places, is well-placed, well-connected and well-underway, and is one of the most exciting places to be working right now. We are bringing together the sum of Carmarthenshire’s varied and distinctive parts to transform the overall economic, environmental, cultural, and social well-being of county.
